Romantically Challenged Help Pt. 2: How To Celebrate Valentine's Day on A Budget

>> Saturday, February 13

Times are tough for a lot of people right now and it's not worth it to spend hundreds of dollars to show your love on Valentine's Day. This isn't just for the day the world chooses to set aside for love; it's for anytime you want to show the one you love how much you care. It doesn't require a lot of money just some elbow grease and creativity. It says to the other person, 'hey, I really put some thought into this and I wanted to show you how much I Love You', instead of the here's the generic roses and chocolate. Here are some of my favorites:

Basket of Love
There are some many things that you love about your significant other so why not create a basket filled with things that represents what you love about them. It doesn't have to be expensive items to fill the basket just meaningful and sentimental. It include: a bag of Hershey's kisses because their kisses are so sweet, massage oils because their touch is divine, etc. You get the idea.

Music of the Heart
If your love doesn't have an Ipod and they are a lover of music, why not get them one and fill it with a romantic playlist of songs that reminds you of them or expresses your love? Already have an Ipod? Create a playlist and send the music files to your love via email or make a mixed CD include “your song”, romantic songs from your wedding, songs from favorite movies.  Better yet, learn how to play one of the songs on the guitar or any instrument you may play and serenade him or her on Valentine's Day.

Love Story
I am a book lover, so I love this idea. Choose a book in which you are both interested, fiction or nonfiction. Read a new chapter each night before bed. This cozy tradition will allow you to spend some quality time together and often makes for thought provoking breakfast conversations. Or get a book of romantic poetry and read to each other your favorites. How romantic is that to have your love read to you?

Game Night
Turn off the TV and play a game of Scrabble or Pictionary, or any romantic game, etc. It’s a great way to really focus
Our Story Journal
Buy a leather-bound journal and write about the feelings you experienced when you first met your mate. Write about the first time you knew you were in love. Write letters to each other in the journal and present to your partner. You can pass the journal between the two of you

Why I Love You
Does your partner ever ask you why you love them? Then create your own little booklet using dollar store items just for them entitled, "Why I Love You: # Reasons".

Have A Picnic
There's something utterly romantic about a picnic for two. Pick a park, take some wine and nibbles and enjoy a little quality time outdoors. It's a lovely and intimate way to enjoy each other's company and the afternoon. Can’t picnic outside? Bring the picnic indoors. Turn your living room or bedroom, into a romantic picnic complete with picnic basket, blankets and music.

When I First Saw You…….
Recreate your first date together. What were you wearing? Where did you go? Do you remember what you talked about? Spend the evening reminiscing and reflecting on how far you have come as a couple

Picture Perfect
We're all visual creatures; have a little photo shoot together and it can be a bit on the naughty side, if that's what you like. Then have fun watching the slideshow together later. Also, you can buy a recordable digital frame and upload your favorite photos of each other, individual and together, and record a sweet message, so when your significant is missing you, they have you with them always.

Host A Couples Party
Invite over a few of your closest couple friends and have each bring a bottle of wine and appetizer/ main-side dish. Get some sexy board games too and share the day with those you care about most.

Cook Your Own Dinner
Bobby Flay doesn’t have anything on you. Whip up a meal fit for a five-star restaurant yourself. Not only will you enjoy something super tasty and impress your lover with your cooking skills, but you'll avoid all the hustle and bustle of a restaurant and get that alone time you're really after. Don't forget to set the ambience; think candles, flowers and dim lighting for added romance.

Coupons
It's an oldie but goodie, coupons to be used whenever, wherever is one of those fun gifts that just keeps on giving back. Create handmade coupons with gifts your partner can use anytime, such as a massage or a night out on the town with friends.

At-Home Spa Session
Get some body scrub, lotion and massage oil and take turns giving each other at-home spa treatments.

Champagne And Chocolate Tasting
Go to your local grocery and pick up a few bottles of Champagne and a variety of chocolates. Have your own mini-tasting at home with your sweetie and discover which varieties are your faves!

Lingerie
Slip into something extra sexy for your sweetie and let the lingerie plan the rest of your evening.

Bubble Bath
Set the scene with some bubbles, Champagne, candles, strawberries and rose petals. Reserve a warm towel straight out the dryer, if you don’t have a towel warmer, for them so when they step out of the shower. It will be like they are wrapped in the warmth of your love. Set aside something sexy for them to slip into to really set the mood. It's super romantic, and bath time has never been this fun.

Sex
…in every room.

Movie Night
Make it a movie night and rent a few films that make you swoon. Cuddle up under the blankets, get some popcorn, wine and light a fire too.

Stargazing
Ditch the idea of a big production and just spend some quality time together under the stars. Don't forget the blankets!

Dessert
Get dolled up and go to a swanky restaurant or resort and order just dessert.
